- John Harper Girvin was born in Philadelphia in 1869. He received his MD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1892. Girvin was the Physician for Diseases of Women, and later was given the position of Gynecologist-in-Chief, at Presbyterian Hospital. He was elected a Fellow of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia in 1897, and served as Clerk of the Gynecological Section of the College as well as Secretary. Girvin died in 1938 at his home in Philadelphia.
This small collection consists of unbound notes on zoology lectures, presumably from Girvin's undergraduate studes in the Biology department at the Univserity of Pennsylvania, dating to circa 1887. Topics include the anatomy of frogs, crayfish, and crabs.
