Soloman Bush daybook, 1789-1792 (inclusive)

Abstract:: This daybook contains medical observations and recipes from Philadelphia resident, Dr. Solomon Bush. The son of Mathias Bush, Dr. Solomon Bush practiced medicine around the time of the Revolutionary War despite not having any formal training. In addition to his medical case studies and remedy recipes, his daybook also includes a memorandum of his marriage to Ann, the daughter of Christopher Marshall on April 2, 1791. The announcement of the birth of his son, Nathan Marshall Bush, follows on February 23rd, 1792. This collection was discovered during a survey in the summer and fall of 2015.

Joseph G. Richardson papers, 1862-1887; undated (inclusive)

Abstract:: Joseph Gibbons Richardson was born in Philadelphia in 1836. He earned his M.D. in 1862 from the University of Pennsylvania, and later was a lecturer on pathological anatomy and professor of hygiene. Richardson is best known for his contributions to the field of medical microscopy. He died in Philadelphia in 1886. The Joseph G. Richardson papers date from 1862 to 1887, and document Richardson's professional career as a physician in 19th-century Philadelphia, including letters to and from colleagues, his publications, and lectures given. The collection is divided into five series: Biographical information; Clippings; Correspondence; Daybook; and Writings. Previously catalogued as 10a 338.

Abstract:: This Newark, Delaware, hotel and tavern daybook belonged to owner, John David Herdman, Jr. It covers transactions for two-and-a-half years of the business with over 3000 entries, including the sale of beer, wine, and spirituous liquors from the tavern as well as charges for lodging at the hotel.

Shipley-Bringhurst-Hargraves family papers, 1692-1978 (inclusive) 1850-1920 (bulk)

Abstract:: Shipley, Bringhurst, and Hargraves are the family names associated with Rockwood, a Victorian Rural Gothic Revival mansion and estate that was built in north Wilmington, Delaware, between 1851 and 1854. The Hargraves were the last family to privately own Rockwood before its donation to New Castle County in the mid-1970s as a historic house museum and public park. The Shipley-Bringhurst-Hargraves family papers document the personal and professional lives, as well as the ancestry and legacy, of several generations of Delawareans associated with Rockwood.
