Abstract:: The personal correspondence included in the Sharpless family letterbook acted as a circulating "family letter," and was added to by each family member with the goal of assembling the letters at the end of the year and binding them together for the use of future generations. Letters generally provide news of each letter writer, as well as comments on past letters. Letter writers include Susanna F. Sharpless, Edith Sharpless, Thomas Sharpless, Elizabeth S. Smedley, Ann Sharpless, William Sharpless, and Susanna Sharpless.

Abstract:: In April of 1911, Walter R. Miles, then professor at Iowa State University, posed this query to other Quakers: Why be loyal to the Society of Friends as a distinct denomination? This collection includes responses he received over the next year from prominent Friends across the nation, particularly educators from the Midwest. The letters present their spiritual and doctrinal philosophies. Authors include J. Herschell Coffin, H. Lavinia Bailey, O. Edward Janney, Edward Grubb, Joseph Elkinton, Rufus Jones, Isaac Sharples, President of Haverford College, John F. Hanson, Murray S. Kenworthy, L.L. Hobbs, founder of Whittier College, Edwin McGrew, Charles E. Tebbets, Edmund Stanley, and others.

Abstract:: The John Woolman Memorial Association was founded in 1915 by Amelia Mott Gummere. It operates out of a historic house in Mount Holly, New Jersey, where John Woolman's family lived, and where their apple orchard once existed. According to its by-laws, its purpose was "the preservation of John Woolman's house [...], for the purpose of social service in the spirit of John Woolman and for antiquarian interest." It is still a working organization today. This collection contains one volume of records, mostly minutes from the John Woolman Memorial Association. It spans from its start in 1915, finishing with dedication to the death of Amelia Mott Gummere, founder of the Association, in 1937.
