The Newtown Historic Association vertical files, circa 1960-2013, consist primarily of photocopied newspaper clippings, with some copies of primary source documents, ephemera, and other materials. The collection is organized into four series: People, Subjects, Streets, and Obituaries.

Abstract:
The Newtown Reliance Company for the Detecting and Apprehending of Horse Thieves and Other Villains, founded in 1819, is the third oldest 'Horse Company' in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The organization still meets, primarily for fellowship, as of 2013. The Newtown Historic Association collection on Newtown Reliance Company and other horse protection companies, 1819-1992, contains records of the Newtown Reliance Company; research, publications, and ephemera on Newtown Reliance Company and other horse protection societies (mostly compiled by historian Edward R. Barnsley); and a small amount of original records of other horse protection societies.

Newtown, the county seat of Bucks County from 1726 to 1813, is one of the most historic areas in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The Newtown Historic Association collection on Newtown anniversaries, circa 1959, circa 1976, circa 1984, and circa 2009, consists largely of materials relating to productions of "Sweet Land," a play about Newtown history, that was performed for Newtown's 275th, 300th, and 325th anniversary celebrations. The collection also documents other aspects of anniversary celebrations with materials such as correspondence, planning documents, financial papers, ephemera, and scrapbooks. Materials relating to "Voices of Newtown," an oral history project conducted for the town's 300th anniversary, are also included.

Newtown Historic Association collection on Edward Hicks and family, 1802-1986 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Edward Hicks (1780-1849) was an American Quaker artist best known for his painting "The Peaceable Kingdom," of which he created more than 60 versions. Hicks lived in Newtown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania from 1811 until his death. The Newtown Historic Association collection on Edward Hicks and family, 1802-1986, includes a fair amount of original primary documents from Edward Hicks and his family members, as well as a large amount of articles, research notes, manuscripts, photocopies of Hicks documents and paintings, and related secondary materials compiled by Hicks scholars. The highlight of the collection is a daybook that was used by Edward Hicks and his son, Isaac W. Hicks, 1833-1885.

Particular properties and buildings are significantly documented, including Allen's Mill, 1787-1964. Of special interest is a 1692 deed on rag paper with an original 17th century jester watermark.
