- John Cobb Cooper, Jr. is considered a pioneer in the field of international law regarding air and space. He was born on September 18, 1887 in Jacksonville, Florida. Cooper received his A.B. from Princeton University in 1909 and was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1911. Cooper married Martha Helen Marvel in 1918 and the couple had three children. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1917-1921 and held the rank of lieutenant and eventually Lieutenant-Commander. After being relieved from active service with the U.S. Navy, Cooper embarked on a career that eventually led him to become an influential figure on international air and space law. Cooper's knowledge and expertise in the field of air and space law helped him publish numerous articles on the subject matter. Nearing the end of his life in 1966, Cooper specifically selected 54 of his published articles on air and space law in hopes to be included in the Anna and Jonas Berger Memorial Space Law Collection at Biddle Law Library.
