Nathaniel Chapman (1780-1853) was an American physician, medical student, and later, professor at the University of Pennsylvania. This collection consists of manuscript notes, taken by students from 1813 to 1833 at the University of Pennsylvania, on Chapman's lectures covering the topics of theory and practice of medicine, the practice of physic, and pathology.

Abstract:
Dr. John Hanson Briscoe (1789-1855) was an American doctor and veteran who earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1811 and practiced medicine in Maryland. This collection consists of 11 volumes plus 30 leaves of lecture notes taken by John Hanson Briscoe while a student at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Department, from 1808 to 1811. Included are lecture notes from courses taught by Benjamin Rush on therapeutics, as well as courses taught by Benjamin Smith Barton, Philip Syng Physick, John Redman Coxe and others.

Benjamin Smith Barton was a naturalist, botanist, and a professor of natural history, botany, and materia medica at the University of Pennsylvania from 1789 to 1813, succeeding Benjamin Rush as professor of medicine. This collection consists of lecture notes taken by four different University of Pennsylvania medical students in Benjamin Smith Barton's materia medica course.
