This artificial collection comprises a variety of types of material documenting world fairs and expositions, spanning the dates between 1851 and 1967, with the bulk of the collection dating from the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893. Material consists of printed matter and ephemera, including newspapers, programs, invitations, maps, brochures, viewbooks, advertisements, stationery, contracts, bonds, trade cards, and a scrapbook; photographs and prints; and realia souvenirs.

Abstract:
This late nineteenth-century American scrapbook bears the title "The Centennial Scrap Book" and its contents suggest that it may have been made by an adolescent female: scraps and images depict courtship, infants, fashionable ladies, flowers, and religious sentiments. The album features a series of Centennial exhibition cards that show the buildings in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, that were constructed for the Centennial International Exhibition of 1876. The album also includes prayer cards; die-cut images of flowers, fruit, birds, children, and fashionable ladies; and two fine examples of original artwork.

Founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1824, in honor of America's first scientist, Benjamin Franklin, The Franklin Institute is one of the oldest and most important science institutes in the nation. Its mission is to inspire a passion for learning about science and technology. The Historical and Interpretive Collections of The Franklin Institute general lantern slide collection, late 19th century-early 20th century, consists of almost 2,500 lantern slides depicting images of and related to The Franklin Institute, as well as science and technology related images. Some of the images in the collection are on full-sized glass plates.

Also in the collection are images related to the Centennial Exhibition of 1876 in Philadelphia, PA and Coleman Sellers's Kinematoscope.

Abstract:
William Warder Matos (1872-1935) owned an advertising company in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the early 20th century. He was heavily involved in planning the Sesqui-Centennial International Exposition of 1926. The William W. Matos papers on the Sesqui-Centennial International Exposition, 1831-1928 (bulk 1920-1928), primarily consist of correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, and ephemera relating to the Sesqui-Centennial International Exposition. Other materials in the collection include some personal papers of William W. Matos and a scrapbook documenting Women's Committee fundraising tea parties for the 1876 Centennial Exposition.
