Overview and metadata sections
The Philadelphia distributors' paper sample books collection consists of forty-two sample books likely produced between 1900 and 1960. The collection contains samples ranging from paper covers to typewriter, blotting, and gummed papers. Each book typically contains papers in multiple colors, weights, and finishes. While the manufacturers are located in New England and the Midwest, the distributors (when identified) are all based in Philadelphia. One of the manufacturing companies is the American Writing Paper Company, which became the largest producer of fine papers in the world during its peak output. The Thomas W. Price Company is the most common distributor.
Paper sample books are arranged alphabetically by manufacturer, and then alphabetically by title when the manufacturer is not identified.
