Virginia Spencer Carr is the John B. and Elena Diaz-Verson Amos Distinguished Chair in English Letters, Department of English, Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. She is the author of The lonely hunter : a biography of Carson McCullers (Doubleday, 1975; Carroll & Graf Publishers, 1985) and

Dos Passos, a life (Doubleday, 1984), and Paul Bowles : a life (Scribner, 2004).

The Virginia Spencer Carr Papers comprises three groups of materials:

I. Papers related to Tennessee Williams, ca. 1911-1996

II. Papers related to Paul Bowles, ca. 1911-2004

III. Personal papers, ca. 1945-2002

The bulk of the material is research, correspondence, manuscripts, and publisher's proofs toward her biography of Paul Bowles.
