This is a finding aid. It is a description of archival material held at the University of Delaware Library Special Collections. Unless otherwise noted, the materials described below are physically available in their reading room, and not digitally available through the web.
Overview and metadata sections
The collection consists of reports, articles, and other papers related to desegregation which were collected as resource files by Abigail Covelli. Delaware started a desegregation project in the public school system in the mid 1970s, and the bulk of the collection relates to this project.
The material in the collection spans the dates 1960-1982, with the bulk dating 1974-1976. The files of this collection are maintained in alphabetical order (by various filing elements) reflecting the arrangement created by Ms. Covelli. There are four sections to this finding aid: Delaware desegregation papers, non- Delaware desegregation papers, index to persons, and index to bibliographies.
Included are desegregation proposals, demographic information, advisory literature, workshop information, and studies and reports on the progress and results of desegregation. The main focus is on New Castle County and Wilmington city schools.
The second part of the collection contains reports on desegregation in other states, and information not directly related to any particular state.
