Sir John Owen, 1st Baronet, was born in 1776. He was the son of Joseph Lord and Corbetta Owen. He married, firstly, Charlotte Phillips, daughter of Reverend John L. Phillips, in 1800. He married, secondly, Mary Frances Stephenson, daughter of Edward Stephenson, on October 21, 1830. He died on February 6, 1861.
He was given the name of John Lord at birth. Circa 1809, his name was legally changed to John Owen on inheriting the estate of Sir Hugh Owen, 6th Baronet. He was created 1st Baronet Owen, of Orielton, co. Pembroke [U.K.] on January 12, 1813. He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Pembrokeshire. He held the office of Governor of Milford Haven. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Pembroke District between 1838 and 1861.

One page, printed on both sides, of accounting ledger, mentioning dates June 27 through August 7, 1850. Mentions names of John Owen and Philip Watkins. Notes efforts to "obtain papers from him [Owen]" and "making formal demand for same," and identifies Owen's location at Carnarvon. Also mentions engraving and stamped paper. Stamped in pink ink with "Superfine Cream Laid Note Paper" surrounded by florarl decoration. Contemporary issues of
North Wales Chronicle mention a John Owen, Justice of Petty Sessions in the region.Box 69, F0980: Shelved in SPEC MSS 0099 manuscript boxes.
