Frym attended the University of New Mexico, where she earned bachelor's and master's degrees and studied with American poet, Robert Creeley. Early in her career, Frym taught creative writing in the San Francisco county jail systems. She published her first book of poetry, titled
Impossible Affection, in 1979. She was later part of the core faculty in the poetics program at the New College of California (1987-2002). The Gloria Frym publicity materials and typescripts comprise seven poetry typescripts by award-winning American poet, lecturer, and writer Gloria Frym (1947-), as well as publicity material relating to her receipt of the San Francisco State University Poetry Center's 1982 Book Award for
Back to Forth. These items were originally laid into American poet Tom Clark's (1941-) copy of Back to Forth, inscribed to him by Frym. The volume is inscribed from Frym to Clark: "Tom—Siberia wouldn't be so bad with postcards from you. Gloria."The publicity materials consist of a postcard announcement and press release naming Frym and Stephen Rodefer recipients of the 1982 Poetry Center Book Award. Additionally laid in are seven undated typescripts of Frym's poems, several of which are signed by her: "Six of One," "All of Them," "Please," "First Lie," "The Hands of a Watch Are Made by Hands," "All the More," and "Manifesto."
