American playwright, cartoonist, author, and illustrator Jules Feiffer was named the most promising playwright by the New York Drama Critics in 1966-1967 for his play,

Little Murders.

Born on January 26, 1929, in the Bronx, New York, Feiffer has written over twenty plays and several novels; he has also created numerous books of cartoons and illustrated children's books. For decades Feiffer created a syndicated comic strip and contributed cartoons to the

Village Voice (1956-1997), The London Observer (1958-1666, 1972-2000), and Playboy.

Jules Feiffer has won a Pulitzer Prize (1986) for editorial cartooning; an Obie for his plays; an Academy Award for the animation of his cartoon satire,

Munro (1961); and Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Writers Guild of America (2007), and the National Cartoonist Society (2003).

This second draft of the screenplay,

Little Murders, was American playwright and cartoonist Jules Feiffer's adaptation of his first play.

The original play,

Little Murders, was critically acclaimed when produced on Broadway in 1967, winning an Outer Critics Circle Award, and a Village Voice Off-Broadway Award. The film produced from Feiffer's adaptation was released in 1971. It was directed by Alan Arkin and starred Eliott Gould, Marcia Rodd, Donald Sutherland, and Vincent Gardenia. Feiffer's screenplay was nominated for a Writers Guild of America award for Best Adaptation from Another Medium.

This mechanically reproduced typescript is brad-bound in a Brodsky-Gould Productions company wrapper. The production number (5064-3A) and revision date (May 25, 1970) are written in ink on the front cover. "Second Draft" is stamped in the upper right corner of the wrapper cover. Two pages of revisions have been added to the end of the script.
