Educator and poet Mia Phoebus was a housemate and confidante of Tennessee Williams during the summer of 1940, at the age of 19. Born Ethel Elkovsky in New York City, Phoebus has been lecturing in the Beverly Hills, California School District for thirty years. It was her experiences with Holocaust survivors that inspired her to write poetry.

Mia Phoebus knew Tennessee Williams during the summer of 1940. During that same summer Williams began writing the play,
The Parade. The items in this collection were collected or created by Mia Phoebus and all but one are related to Tennessee Williams. The Tennessee Williams material includes a photocopy of the typescript for his play, The Parade and a photocopy of a 1940 photograph which includes Williams and Phoebus. There are also three poems written by Phoebus which reflect on her relationship to Williams: "At Summer's End," "In Memory of Tennessee Williams. 1911-1983," and "In Memoriam: Tennessee Williams." The collection also includes a fourth poem written by Phoebus, titled "Dedicated to Naomi Vanek."Box 55, F0828: Shelved in SPEC MSS 0099 manuscript boxes.
