Overview and metadata sections

The American dramatist, writer, and essayist Arthur Miller was born October 17, 1915, in New York City. Some of his best known plays include

All My Sons (1947), Death of a Salesman (1949), and The Crucible (1953). Miller also wrote and produced The Misfits (1961), which starred his then wife Marilyn Monroe. Miller died on February 10, 2005, of heart failure.

Contemporary Authors Onlinee, s.v. “Miller, Arthur,” Biography Resource Center, http://galenet.galegroup.com/servlet/BioRC (accessed October 31, 2007).

Original rehearsal script from the first production of Miller's classic play, first produced by Kermit Bloomgarden in New York, 1953. This text shows several textual discrepancies with the published text. It appears to be an intermediate state of the play, with the excised scene of Abigail and Proctor in the woods already deleted. A series of small corrections to the text have been made in red pencil in an unknown hand.
