Shaemas O'Sheel was born in New York City in 1886 and died in tarrytown, New York, in 1954. He attended Columbia University and was active in Democratic Party and New York City politics during the early years of the twentieth century. O'Sheel was a critic and published several collections of his poetry. John Lindmark was a bookseller in Poughkeepsie, New York, and a friend of O'Sheel's. "Shaemas O'Sheel." This small collection contains seven letters from Shaemas O'Sheel written between 1921 and 1950. Three of the letters are addressed to John Lindmark, two to Lindmark's wife Rae, and one to both John and Rae Lindmark. A 1941 New Year's greeting card signed "Annette and Shaemas" completes the collection. The initial letter in the collection (1921) thanks Lindmark for sending O'Sheel a copy of a book by Shane Leslie. In this letter O'Sheel mentions that he has "moved farther from the writing of books, farther into the business field." A 1932 letter discusses the possibility of O'Sheel buying Lindmark's business. Later letters provide personal information and extend invitations to John and Rae Lindmark to visit O'Sheel and his wife Annette at their "cabin" in Walden, New York.
