American motion picture screenwriter Dudley Nichols was instrumental in founding the Screen Writers' Guild and also directed and produced films.

Irish author Liam O'Flaherty (1896-1984) is primarily known for his short stories and novels.

This collection consists of a staple-bound mimeographed typescript draft of "The Informer," a screenplay by Dudley Nichols which was adapted from Liam O'Flaherty's novel. Nichols refused to accept the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award which he received for the screenplay, citing his support of the Screen Writers' Guild.
