Irish painter, playwright and author Samuel Lover (1797-1868) was a prolific artist during the 19th century. He painted portraits and wrote plays, ballads and novels.

This collection consists of one autograph letter signed from Samuel Lover to Le Chevalier Chatelain thanking him for his translation of one of Lover's poems and his intention to translate others. He also remarks about giving recognition to the Scots Irishmen, separate from Englishmen.
