Irish painter, playwright, and author Samuel Lover (1797-1868) was a prolific artist during the nineteenth century. He painted portraits and wrote plays, ballads and novels.

This is an autograph letter signed by publisher John Maxwell to Samuel Lover, encouraging Lover's contributions to a magazine edited by Maxwell entitled

The Welcome Guest. The letter is written on the stationery of the magazine.
