Overview and metadata sections

In 1922, nationally known Delaware sculptor Charles Cropper Parks was born in Onancock, Virginia.

Educated at the University of Delaware and The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Charles Parks created a vast collection of sculpture which represented the people, landscape, and values of the state of Delaware. In 2011 the Parks family donated approximately 290 of Charles Parks's works of art to the State of Delaware.

Some of Parks's best-known public sculptures are his three Madonnas (now displayed in California, Indiana, as well as New Castle, Delaware), "The Student" at the Newark Public Library, "Boy with Hawk" at the Brandywine River Museum, "Vietnam" at Brandywine Park, and "Father and Son" in Spencer Plaza, Wilmington, Delaware.

Charles Parks died on October 25, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Inge (Ruehl) Park.

Miriam Eugenia (Szafir) Willis was born February 11, 1920, in Beaumont, Texas.

An advocate for fair and open government, Miriam Willis actively supported the League of Women Voters and public libraries. She was a founding member of the Friends of the Newark Free Library and an activist with Common Cause in the development of campaign finance reform.

Miriam Willis, who was a friend of Charles and Inge Parks, died on June 15, 2012, in Newark, Delaware.

Delaware sculptor Charles Parks (1922-2012) and his wife, Inge, sent these two holiday greeting cards to Miriam Willis. The front of each greeting card has an image of a sculpture created by Charles Parks and inside each is a brief handwritten expression of holiday good wishes.
