Overview and metadata sections
The Carol Hoffecker Delaware bookplate collection comprises 71 bookplates belonging to prominent early twentieth-century Delawareans and regional organizations. Individuals represented include statesmen, businessmen, and members of distinguished families, such as the du Pont and Warner families.
The collection includes the bookplates of 19 different individuals and organizations. These include individuals such as du Pont heiress and University of Delaware benefactor Amy E. duPont (1880-1962), prominent businessmen such as Frank Gifford Tallman (1860-1938), Lewis Rumford II (1905-1997), and Norris Wright (born 1886), as well as State Representative and House Speaker Frank R. Zebley (1883-1960). The bookplates vary in style and bear depictions of classical, pastoral, and maritime images, as well as personal caricatures and photographic portraits. Artists represented in the collection include Charles S. Chapman (1879-1962) and caricaturist and cartoonist Gee Tee Maxwell (1889-1965). The collection contains duplicates of many of the bookplates.
