Stephen Grellet was a Quaker merchant, minister and social reformer. He was born in France and migrated to the U.S. in 1795. He joined the Society of Friends in 1796 and moved to New York City in 1800. Grellet traveled widely in the ministry, visiting in America, Haiti, and Europe.
S FHL note: Traveling minutes to Great Britain, Ireland, and the Continent for Stephen Grellet with endorsements and return minutes, 1807-1814, are stored in MSS 062. These documents were chosen by William Wood, Clerk of New York Yearly Meeting, in a selection of Quaker materials which he pasted in scrapbooks titled Gathered Leaves. The only document actually by Stephen Grellet is his 1813 Epistle.
