James Logan was the secretary of William Penn. Born in Ireland in 1674, he travelled to Philadelphia with Penn in 1699. There he married Sarah Read in 1714, and began the erection of Stenton, the family mansion in Germantown, Pa. His eldest son, William, born in 1718, inherited Stenton in 1751 at James' death. William married Hannah Emlen, and died in 1776. His eldest son, George, born in 1753, married Deborah Norris in 1781. He died in 1821.
