Abstract:

Contains the records of the Swarthmore Recreation Association (SRA) which include material on the organization from its founding in 1940 up to the year 1990. SRA was established to provide and supervise recreational facilities for residents of the Borough of Swarthmore and to encourage participation in indoor and outdoor games, sports, and athletic competitions. Among other programs, SRA offered a summer day camp for children in kindergarten through fourth grade.

Swarthmore Recreation Association (SRA) was founded in 1940 to provide and supervise recreational facilities for residents of the Borough of Swarthmore and to encourage participation in indoor and outdoor games, sports, and athletic competitions. Among other programs, SRA offered a summer day camp for children in kindergarten through fourth grade.

Series 1 includes records of board meetings, budget tables, and financial reports between the years 1954 and 1961. The annual files (Series 2) are comprised of further financial statements and reports, letters to board members, program brochures, and, in later years, newspaper clippings. The miscellaneous files (Series 3) contain documents pertaining to the history of the Swarthmore Swim Club as well as photographs by Weemie Kingham of Swarthmore documenting a fiftieth anniversary party for SRA.
