Charles Palmer, a Quaker attorney, was born in July of 1863, the son of Lewis and Hannah Pancoast Palmer of Concord Monthly Meeting. He studied at Swarthmore College in 1882 and 1885, then studied law with Edmund Jones in Chester, Pennsylvania. He married Arletta Cutler in 1897. and they had seven sons. Palmer was a staunch supporter of temperance and ran for a seat on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court on the National Prohibition Party. He was also a practicing realtor and was involved in building and loan associations and insurance. Charles Palmer founded the Delaware County Historical Society. He died in Ridley Park in 1966 at the age of 102.
This is a collection of printed ephemera and related correspondence of Charles Palmer of Chester, Pennsylvania. The materials reflect his interests in temperance and other social reforms, politics, the Society of Friends, and other topics. While there is a small amount of correspondence, most is related to business or community involvement on Delaware County, Pennsylvania.
This collection was recovered from abandoned boxes and was initially covered in mold. What could be salvaged was sorted into topical files.

Poor House records deposited in Historical Society of Pennsylvania were transferred to Delaware County Archives. Admissions and Discharges, Death in the County Home, 1808-1929, missing years 1841-1846.
