Overview and metadata sections
Bainbridge C. Davis was born in 1910 and graduated from Dartmouth College in 1932. For 26 years he served as a Foreign Service Officer in Venezuela, Jamaica, Chile, and Panama. In 1942, he and his wife, Virginia Hyde Davis, became members of the Society of Friends. Davis was actively involved with various Quaker organizations in his later life. He was a valued member of the Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC), serving as liaison between the FWCC and Friends in Latin America and Africa. In addition, Davis served as a corporation member of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) and was a Philadelphia Yearly Meeting member and representative to the World Conference of Friends in 1979 and 1991. Davis was a member of the Media Monthly Meeting, Pennsylvania, and a board member of Pendle Hill, the Quaker study center in Wallingford, Pennsylvania. Bainbridge C. Davis died on July 16, 1993, at the age of 83.
This collection contains the papers and documents amassed by Bainbridge Davis relating to various Quaker organizations, including the Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC), the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, and Pendle Hill, spanning from 1960-1993. The papers document Davis's work over this 33 year period.
The collection predominantly consists of correspondence and other primary information, relating to the involved organizations. Various reference files are included.
