Overview and metadata sections
The organization of Quakers Uniting in Publications (QUIP) was proposed at Pendle Hill, the Quaker conference and study center in Wallingford, Pa., in November 1983. After a series of informal meetings, the first formal meeting was held in February 1984 at Pendle Hill. The group intended to have "a focus on how to let potential readers know what Quaker books are available and how to get them." This included maintaining databases of Quaker publications, negotiating wholesale prices for the publications, creating forums for editorial concerns and discussions, creating centers for the distribution of Quaker books, holding annual meetings for education, and starting a fund to assist in production and distribution of Quaker publications. The group is currently active.
The collection consists of the original proposals for QUIP and correspondence surroundings its formation, membership lists, financial records, correspondence, catalogs, and documents relating to the annual and midyear meetings.
The QUIP Youth Book Project (YBP) was an attempt to collect pieces and art works about Quakerism from young friends (age 15-30) from all over the world. Whispers of Faith: Young Friends share their experiences of Quakerism was published in 2005, and the more extensive collection, titled Spirit Rising: Young Quaker Voices was published in 2010 under the guidance of Angelina Conti, project coordinator. The documents in the second half of the collection mainly deal with the production of Spirit Rising including grant proposals, budgets, making of the editorial board, initial submissions, and writers' conferences.
