Overview and metadata sections
In 1994 a meeting organized by Parents and Friends of Gays and Lesbians (PFLAG), Grassroot Queers, and ACT UP (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power) was held at the First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. That meeting led to the formation of the Fight the Right Network, which subsequently spun off several working groups that eventually became separate organizations.
The Fight the Right Network's mission states that, "The Fight the Right Network will build inclusive and ongoing campaigns to expose and defeat the agenda of the political and religious right. These local campaigns will also work to improve the lives of those most affected by the right-wing agenda."

This collection is comprised of binders of newsletters from leftist groups, clippings on right-wing groups, and "think tank" reports on social/political issues. There are also a number of published books and reports.
Summary descriptive information on this collection was compiled in 2011-2012 as part of a pilot project conducted by the Historical Society of Pennsylvania to make better known and more accessible the largely hidden collections of small, primarily volunteer run repositories in the Philadelphia area. The Hidden Collections Initiative for Pennsylvania Small Archival Repositories (HCI-PSAR) was funded by a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
This is a preliminary finding aid. No physical processing, rehousing, reorganizing, or folder listing was accomplished during the HCI-PSAR project.
In some cases, more detailed inventories or finding aids may be available on-site at the repository where this collection is held; please contact John J. Wilcox Jr. LGBT Archives of Philadelphia directly for more information.
