Overview and metadata sections

The Van Pelt Library, built in 1962, is the main social science and humanities library within the library network of the University of Pennsylvania. Its ground floor bulletin board, located next to the Undergraduate Study Center, provides information and resources for the greater University of Pennsylvania (Penn) community. David Toccafondi, a Penn alumnus, has worked at the Van Pelt Library in various capacities since 1995, and currently manages the Vitale Digital Media Lab. He is also an avid photographer.

This collection contains flyers culled from the bulletin board on the ground floor of the Van Pelt Library at the University of Pennsylvania by David Toccafondi, the Media Lab Manager of the Vitale Digital Media Lab, during 2017 and 2018. The flyers include posters for University of Pennsylvania events and exhibits, course offerings, want ads, medical studies, political propaganda, and other printed material meant to appeal to the University of Pennsylvania community. The bulletin board is populated by a wide range of contributors, from academic departments, Penn Libraries across campus, to student organizations and groups, to name only a few. As such, the flyers highlight some of the exciting and innovative activities occurring on campus and reflect the diversity of Penn's community, as well as its place in the wider Philadelphia community and the nation.

The flyers are separated into folders by month, and organized chronologically within these folders. Flyers with a date range are represented by the earliest date. Flyers that are undated are placed at the end of month during which they were removed.
