Overview and metadata sections
This photograph album was kept by a British soldier who appears to be named Ricardo. Spanning the years from 1927 to 1929 the album comprises 95 black-and-white photographs measuring 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches with captions in white ink. The images are of fellow soldiers, civilian women, landscapes, military camps, temples, churches, local people, and customs. The photographs were taken chiefly in cities and towns in Pakistan, what was named the North-West Frontier Province. The photographs include images of Razmak, Murree, Dera Ismail Khan, Karachi, Manzai, and Quetta. Several photographs taken in Quetta depict sporting events and social gatherings at the military training site called Staff College. There are images of military camps in the city of Razmak. Photographs taken in Karachi show Man O' War ships. There are street scenes and images of cultural customs such as Mahsud dancers, merchants, and local cooks. There are two images of the British biplane called the Vickers type 56 Victoria dating from December 1928 with the notation "on its way to relieve the Kabul Legation." There are snapshots of soldiers and friends celebrating Christmas and having high tea in Dera Ismail Khan in 1928. On the inside back cover of the volume is written "Sunny memories of Indian days." Some photographs are without captions.
