Overview and metadata sections
This album's creator is unidentified and it is unclear where in India the photographs were taken. It is possible that the creator was a British person visiting or living in India.
The photographs were taken during British Raj, or British rule in India, which lasted from 1858 to 1947.
This photograph album contains 21 black and white photographs taken in India in around the 1910s and 1920s by an unidentified photographer.
The album is bound in green cloth covers with "Sketched in the Sun" printed on the front cover.
The photographs largely show village life in India, including images of people walking, running errands, and doing chores in addition to some portraits of British looking people.
Examples of subjects of the photographs include bullock carts (front pastedown, p. 15); carts distributing items and produce to people with baskets (p. 2); a British man, two Indian men, horses, and dogs (p. 3); snake charmers (p. 5-6); landscapes (p. 7, 10); people with an elephant (p. 8); portraits of a British man (p. 9, 21); people dancing (p. 11); a thatched roof house with a car (p. 13); Indian children in a car (p. 19); and a village street lined with parked rickshaws (back pastedown).
