Overview and metadata sections

Born in Stanmore, Middlesex, England to Cecil Humphrey and Alice Mary Lambert. Guy R. Lambert was a Lieutenant Cololnel in the 1st Field Brigade, 98th Field Battery Royal Artillery based in Quetta, Pakistan. He witnessed and documented the 1935 Quetta earthquake. The earthquake killed over 30,000 people in Quetta. Lambert had two siblings, Joyce Madeline and Humphrey Philip.

A scrapbook created by Lambert consisting of documentation, letters, and photographs concerning the Quetta Earthquake and its aftermath. Tipped in the volume is Lambert's typed daily account of the earthquake from its occurrence at 3:00 a.m. on May 31 to June 9, 1935. Lambert described digging for survivors, the number of deaths, military aid and operation, and the catastrophic destruction of Quetta. His account is followed by a typescript: Extracts from the official report on the Quetta Earthquate, 1935 compiled by Major A. C. Willison ..., Western Command. The extracts recorded British soldiers' daily operations. Following the typescripts are seven letters and a telegram to Lambert from his family and friends discussing the quake. Two hand-drawn maps of Quetta are in the volume. Documenting the earthquake's destruction and devastation to the region are 86 numbered black-and-white photographs pasted on the rectos. Typed descriptions of the images are tipped in the volume preceding each leaf of photographs. At the end of the volume is a typescript address and copy of a telegram by the Viceroy and Governor-General of India.
