Overview and metadata sections

Kohler is a professor of the history and sociology of science at the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated from Yale with a B.A. in chemistry and earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from Harvard University, in 1965. Kohler has published several works regarding the history of field sciences; scientific practices in lab and field. Kohler was awarded the George Sarton Medal, History of Science Society in 2004.

Draft of unpublished manuscript on the history of terpene chemistry, probably written after 1965. The typed manuscript is heavily annotated without an Introduction.Ten chapters, pages numbered to 406, with additional text and inserts. Chemists discussed include A. Kekulé, O. Wallach, J. Bredt, G. Wagner, A. von Baeyer, L. Ruzicka, W. H. Perkin, Jr., F. Tiemann, and F. W. Semmler. The manuscript is housed in 13 folders.
