Overview and metadata sections
Laurie Wagman—a Philadelphia native— is the Founder and President of American Theater Arts for Youth, Inc. (TAFY) as well as its division, American Family Theater, which have been presenting professional theater productions to school aged children for over four decades. Serving as a cultural and curricular bridge between students and teachers, American Theater Arts for Youth has developed into one of the foremost artistic education organizations in the United States. Wagman has been the recipient of numerous awards for her achievements on behalf of young people, including citations from the City of Philadelphia and the Freedoms Foundation. In addition, Laurie Wagman has served on the boards for the Opera Company of Philadelphia, the Creative Glass Center, and the National Theater Alliance.
This collection displays Wagman's breadth of work through the American Family Theater (TAFY), covering a wide range of material from press releases, news articles, season catalogs, promotional materials, and even a book of holiday songs for children composed by Wagman. Most notable are the extensive materials from the performances given by the American Family Theater. These records include study guides, scripts, musical scores, photographs, production notes, and recordings of over forty unique productions, each produced by Laurie Wagman. In addition, business records and publications from Broadway on Tour—another notable theater organization headed by Wagman—can be found in the collection.
Substantial portions of this collection have been digitized and are available to researchers online.
