J. Speers was a student at the University of Pennsylvania Medical College where he studied under Drs. Philip Syng Physick (1768-1837) and John Syng Dorsey (1783-1818).
Notes on medical school lectures of Philip Syng Physick and John Syng Dorsey, professors at the University of Pennsylvania Department of Medicine, on topics including luxations, head injuries, cancer, diseases of the eye and throat, hernia, materia medica, and gangrene, dated 15 January 1816-29 February 1816 (p.1, 80), signed J. Speers (p.1). In two gatherings sewn together without a binding.
