The Nottingham Naturalists' Society was located in Nottingham, England and founded in 1852. According to rules of the society: the object of this Society shall be the cultivation and encouragement of Natural Science and the arts connected therewith ... and in supplying required specimens to the Free Museum. The Society was part of the Midland Union of Natural History Societies. The Nottingham Naturalists' Society held bi-monthly meetings, presented twelve papers per year, and had an annual excursion. The Society also had it's own library with borrowing privileges.

A cloth-bound letterpress copybook containing the outgoing correspondence of the Nottingham Naturalists' Society spanning the years from 1885 to 1890. A tabbed alphabetical index interleaved with blotting paper is at the beginning of the volume. Following the index are copied letters on 499 numbered leaves. Almost all of the correspondence is signed by W. Handley Kay, a solicitor, who was honorable secretary of the society. The correspondence regards all aspects of the society including acknowledgement letters, call for papers, excursions, finances, library returns, meetings, membership, publications, specimens, subscriptions, and transactions. The outgoing correspondence was to geologists, members, other societies, and publishers. Other letters include those to microscopical and philosophical societies. Some correspondence regarded the Midland naturalist published by the Midland Union. The Midland Naturalist published papers and news of the Nottingham Naturalists' Society. A stamp on the inside front cover and label on beginning endpaper read: Nottingham Naturalists' Society. A label on inside front cover reads: Star linen fiber copying book, trade mark.
