Overview and metadata sections

The Making of Modern Law is three part series that contains a vast array of information on the American legal history. The first series, Legal Treatises, 1800–1926, covers the landmark period of legal development in America and Great Britain during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The second series, U.S. Supreme Court Records and Briefs, 1832-1978, contains a comprehensive collection of records and briefs brought before the nation's highest court by leading legal practitioners that includes transcripts, applications for review, motions, petitions, supplements and other official papers of the most-studied and talked-about cases. The third series, Trials, 1600-1926, includes unofficially published accounts of trials; official trial documents, briefs and arguments; and official records of legislative proceedings, administrative proceedings and arbitrations. The Making of Modern Law series is considered an indispensable resource designed specifically for scholars, students, legal historians, and the legal community.
