Overview and metadata sections
The University of Pennsylvania Law Review is the oldest law review in the United States, continuously published since 1852. The Review is published by second and third year law students at the University of Pennsylvania Law School and is currently published seven times per year, each issue containing articles, reviews, comments, and notes on various topical legal issues. It is one of five law journals at Penn Law School and is the fifth most cited law journal in the world.
Originally published as the American Law Register, the Penn Law Review was written only by practicioners of law but was later expanded to include judges, legal professors. In 1895, under the leadership of William Draper Lewis (later Dean of Penn Law) and George Wharton Pepper, the American Law Register was transferred to the University of Pennsylvania Law School and taken over by law students. The current name was adopted in 1945.
This collection is divided into series containing files of relevant specific articles, notes, comments, or reviews in the University of Pennsylvania Law Review. Each file contains a combination of original research and correspondence specifically used or cited in those articles. Files are titled according to their respective title or section in the Penn Law Review, when applicable or available.
Those files with titles also include as much detail about the authorship, content, file specifics, and location of the article by volume, page, and year of the Penn Law Review and can be found in print or online. Authors are usually not listed with articles in older copies of the Penn Law Review and online, but contributing editors, authors, and members of the Penn Law Review are indicated when referenced by the material.
Those files without specific titles or information are confirmed to be materials used in Penn Law Review publications, but insubstantial information could be found to properly identify and sort these pieces, apart from the content of the files and some contributors mentioned.
