Overview and metadata sections
Founded in 1923, the American Law Institute (ALI) is a private non-profit organization that drafts, discusses, revises, and publishes Restatements of the Law, Model Codes, and Principles of the Law. The Council governs the ALI and determines which projects and activities the ALI pursues and approves. The Council consists of lawyers, judges, and academics with focuses in a range of legal areas and with a breadth of experience. Council members are elected to their position and attend regularly scheduled meetings where projects are discussed, edited, and approved. As the governing body of the ALI, the Council is also responsible for authorizing and appointing duties of the ALI committees such as the Executive Committee, the Nominating Committee, and the Governance Committee to name a few. The ALI is actively involved in revisiting and revising areas of the law that affect interpretation and enactment of the law throughout the United States.
