Overview and metadata sections
The Pan American Network of Nursing and Midwifery Collaborating Centers (PANMCC, pronounced “PAN-mack”) is composed of the PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centers for Nursing Human Resources Development and Patient Safety.
Its 19 collaborating centers, based in the Americas, Canada and the Caribbean, seek to promote a more regular dialogue with each other. According its charter: “The PANMCC network will be recognized as a reflection of the diversity of nurses and midwives in the region to promote the contributions of nursing and midwifery. PANMCC will serve as a resource for knowledge exchange, capacity building, and health systems development in order to further ‘Health for All’ through the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.”
During 2009-2011, PANMCC recognized and conducted an Oral History Project to shed light on the founding and development of the organization as well as its contributions to nursing and midwifery.
Materials within this collection are both physical documents and folders as well as born digital materials and folders. In many instances, there is both a physical and born digital record. The exception primarily relates to original or redline interview transcripts where there is only a born digital documents. Final transcripts (unless there is only an original transcript) had been printed out.
The Center suggests reviewing the physical documents before requesting access to the born digital materials as there are numerous duplications between the two formats. There is a Researcher Only copy available for in-house use.
Gift of Lynda Wilson and PANMCC. Additional materials from Barbra Mann Wall.
