Samuel W. Pennypacker was born April 9, 1843 in Phoenixville, PA. He studied Law at the University of Pennsylvania, and opened his own practice in 1866. Pennypacker served in several judgeships, as well as president of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, before serving as Governor of Pennsylvania from 1903-1907. He died on September 2, 1916.

The Catalog is from an auction held in April 1906 to auction off Samuel W. Pennypacker's library. Held at Davis and Harvey in Philadelphia, the catalog lists all the items up for sale, as well as facsimiles of some documents.
