Overview and metadata sections
In November 1988, the then University President, Sheldon Hackney, declared that a new Committee named the President's Committee on University Life was to be created. The "charge" to the Committee was to "create and maintain a campus atmosphere that is conducive to the fine and vigorous exchange of ideas not only in the classroom but also througout the living and working environment" shared by Penn faculty, students and staff. Hackney instructed the Committee to produce a report that would provide a basis to inform all aspects of our life at Penn and serve as the basis for the new five-year plan to be developed by the Vice Provost for University Life.
This small collection includes the charge to the President's Committee on University Life, the minutes of the Committee's first meeting minutes, its report issued in September 1989, member listings, and some correspondence.
