Eugene W. Caruthers (1880-1966) was a railway worker in Pennsylvania for 47 years. He was born in Clearfield, Pennsylvania in 1880 to Thomas and Leah Caruthers. He married Mary Tinsley Bucher on January 1, 1914, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and they had five children together. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 47 years, even writing a U.S. Patent for railway frogs in 1935. Eugene died on July 31, 1966, in Upper Darby Township, Pennsylvania.
This collection contains the papers of Eugene W. Caruthers documenting his life in Philadelphia from 1888-1945. Most of the collection contains correspondence, postcards, and invitations from family and friends. The collection also contains correspondence dealing with Caruthers employment with the Pennsylvania Railroad and his financial records.
