Overview and metadata sections
Roy Lavender was an aerospace engineer, science fiction fan, frequent convention attendee and organizer, and author of essays describing fan life in the early years of science fiction and the "pulp era." Lavender was a member of First Fandom, and a founder of Midwestcon.
This collection contains extensive numbers of photographic prints and 35mm slides of various science fiction conventions, including examples of cosplay. Also included are convention booklets and ephemera, fanzines, correspondence, memorabilia, a scrapbook of Harlan Ellison's column, "The Glass Teat: A Column of Opinion about Television," publications, and other materials.

- Series 5: Writings, ephemera, and other materials, 1966-1998
- Series 6: Harlan Ellison scrapbook, circa 1968-1972
- Series 7: January 2008 additions, circa 1939-1988, undated
- Series 8: September 2012 additions, 1949, undated

All digital records in this collection have been migrated to a library server, and digital use copies can only be accessed onsite in the SCRC reading room. Collection Inventory
Series 1 contains files organized by personal or organization name, including letters, photographs, ephemera, newsletters, directories, writings, and other materials. This series also includes html pages from Lavender's personal website including text of "Fandom Is A Way Of Life" and "Suits and Seats" and four digitized photographs from the 1949 Midwestcon.
