Captain Morris served in 17th Regiment of Foot in the British Army during the American Revolution. He transferred on returning to England and finally entered the Life-Guards. He moved in fashionable circles and wrote light songs for his colleagues amusements. His Lyra Urbanica was first published soon after his death, with a second edition published in 1844.
Handwritten manuscript of poems, written in a 259 page bound volume. Includes lithograph portrait of the author. The poems deal with various subjects ranging from love to musings on life. The tone also ranges from the tragic to the comic and includes some bacchanalian songs.
