Overview and metadata sections
The collection consists of papers from a German born Jewish family, namely Johanna Lövinson Meyer and two of her brothers, Martin Lövinson and Emil Lövinson. The collection includes a deconstructed album containing photographs, mainly of Johanna in Berlin, clippings, correspondence, and other records with captions written in German and English, 1874-1958; an approximately 400 page memoir, "Lebenserinnerungen von Johanna Meyer-Lövinson Kindheit und Jugend bis zu ihrem Eheschluss, " written in a mix of typescript and handwritten pages, 1943; a book of handwritten poems, circa 1918, and a journal, "Unsere Dienstmädchen, " 1901-1921, with pasted in photographs and letters compiled by Johanna and her husband, Eugen; two typescript volumes titled "Martin Lövinson: Die Geschichte Meines Lebens, " 1924-1926; and memoirs, correspondence, and other records related to Emil Lövinson. Also included is a family genealogy, "Gedenkschrift zur Erinnerung an die von Dr. Mortiz Lövinson" compiled posthumously in 1981 by Johanna's daughter, Leonore Meyer, and others. The bulk of the collection is in German.
Donated by Leonore J. Meyer in 1980 and the estate of Leonore J. Meyer in 1997. Collection previously administered by the Philadelphia Jewish Archives Center, acquired by Temple in June 2009.
