Overview and metadata sections
The Paulsboro (N.J.) Jewish Community Club (PJCC) was founded in the late 1930s by the Jewish populations of Paulsboro and Gibbstown, New Jersey. The club was incorporated in 1948. After meeting in rented halls and private homes during their early years, the club purchased a building in 1948 to function as a fulltime community and religious center. The building was also used as a Sunday school for the members' children and served as the social center of Jewish life in Paulsboro. The PJCC frequently made charitable contributions to both Jewish and general causes, particularly within their own community. As the Jewish population dwindled in the late 1970s, the remaining members decided to sell their building and use the proceeds to endow permanent scholarships at Paulsboro High School and the Gibbstown Elementary School. The remaining income was donated to various Jewish charities in the 1990s.
Paulsboro (N.J.) Jewish Community Club Records contain administrative records, organizational histories, correspondence, newspaper clippings, printed ephemera, photographs, and slides documenting the founding, function, and membership of the PJCC.
