Overview and metadata sections

Bernard D. Weinryb was a historian, author, and professor at Brooklyn College, Yeshiva University, and Dropsie College. Weinryb was born in Turobin, Poland, on May 15, 1900. He immigrated to the United States in 1939. Weinryb authored articles and books on the social and economic history of Jews and was a contributor to the Encyclopaedia Judaica. Weinryb died on July 15, 1982.

The collection is primarily incoming and some outgoing correspondence related to Weinryb's writing and teaching activities. This includes correspondence with contemporary scholars, writers, historians, and publishers, particularly as it relates to submissions to the Encyclopaedia Judaica, as well as correspondence with Dropsie College administrators, faculty, and graduate students. The collection also includes book reviews and articles written by Weinryb, Dropsie College course syllabi, faculty meeting minutes, and reports. Correspondence and other records in Hebrew and German can be found throughout the collection.

The collection is arranged alphabetically by folder title.

Donated by Bernard D. Weinryb in May 1981. Collection previously administered by the Philadelphia Jewish Archives Center, acquired by Temple in June 2009.
