The Limited Editions Club was founded in New York in 1929 by George Macy, to publish relatively small runs of illustrated editions of classic titles for club members, who pay a subscription fee to receive the books. After Macy died in 1956 his wife, Helen, ran the company. When she retired in the 1970s, she could the club to Boise Cascade, who himself sold the company in 1978. In addition to illustrations by such famous artists as Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Thomas Hart Benton, Arthur Rackham, and Norman Rockwell, the editions frequently made us of special paper, cover materials, and slip cases or boxes.

Also included are letters to subscribers to the club as well as a few letters from the club to Albert J. Caplan, newspaper clippings, and ephemera.
