Overview and metadata sections

Valenti Angelo, author and illustrator, was born in Italy and emigrated to the United States as a child. He worked for three years in a photoengraving firm and began illustrating books for Grabhorn Press in 1926. Angelo became a free-lance artist in 1933 and began writing children's books in 1937. He has written 16 books for children, all self-illustrated, and has also illustrated more than 37 others. Many of his books have been included in the American Institute of Graphic Arts', Fifty Books of the Year exhibits.

Ten autograph letters, eight addressed to Henry Schniewind of the Four Winds Press and two to the typographer, Jackson Burke. The collection includes an original pen and ink drawing by Angelo for his design of a press mark for Four Winds and two large folded sheets of proofs. The letters discussed work Angelo did for Schniewind and acknowledged compliments made about his work.

Purchased from Bromer, February 18, 1988.
